Llandudno West Shore Beach
Llandudno's West Shore beach is a beautiful long flat beach that stretches from the Great Orme to the sandy dunes backing onto the North Wales Golf Club.
The West Shore is less well known that Llandudno's other beach, the North Shore, but this in no way makes it less of a beach. If anything Llandudno's West Shore beach is better as it enjoys large expanses of relatively flat sand with views across the bay towards the Snowdonia Mountains and Isle of Anglesey.
The beach stretches from the Great Orme over a distance of approximately one mile towards the sandy dunes that back onto the North Wales Golf Club.
At the Great Orme end a children's play area lies next to a boating lake. Swans sometimes swim on the lake. You are not as close to the town centre but a small number of shops, including a convenience store and fish and chip shop, are about 200 yards away.
As you move towards the sand dunes you can enjoy the wonderful views across the bay and on clear days can easily see the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park and the Isle of Anglesey.
A small cafe is located by the car park close to the sand dunes where you can enjoy welcome refreshments and ice creams without going to far from the beach.
The sand dunes are popular with those wanting more privacy or for children to explore. The dunes themselves run alongside the beach and the North Wales Golf Club almost as far as the village of Deganwy. This is often a popular walk.
Please be aware that as the sands are so flat on the West Shore the tide tends to come in very quickly and you can easily be cut off from the main beach. Also as the Conwy River exits to the sea in the estuary the currents can be stronger than expected.
